Science Doesn't Understand How Ice Forms
What starts off as a simple desire to get a macro shot of a droplet of water freezing quickly leads George to the very edge of scientific knowledge and a shocking fact about most of the water on Earth.
*Note: in the droplets I’m freezing, all the dendrites would have likely come from a *single* nucleation point, not multiple ones.

Why would you make a cocktail with ~curdled~ milk? Join George as he answers this question by accidentally making the best cocktail he’s ever tasted, thus achieving lasting Internet fame.* *We need your help with this last step. Correction: 4:03 I’m showing the phosphate groups getting protonated by the acid, but in reality there are some amino acid sidechains (which are not on my drawing) that...
Did the Chemical Building Blocks of Life Form in Space?
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 месяца назад
For years scientists thought complex molecules could only be formed on Earth. But what if we did find these kinds of molecules out in space? What if they could be formed not just in and around biology but also in cold, dark corners of the universe? Scientists have wondered if they might have been early seeds for life on earth, or even a stockpile of molecular building blocks deposited onto our ...

Why don't you just... GALVANIZE DU DU DUU du DU dudu dudududu DU DU DUU
Ah yes, full metal alchemist
Large ships use big bricks of this stuff bolted to the hull.
Why did I think they were vanilla beans 😂
Zinc, boaters use zinc
so what happens when the sacrificial metal is completely eroded?
Then the nail starts corroding, but that greatly increases its lifespan, and on other things like ships where the anode is a block that is adhered to the iron part, a new one can be fixed to replace the old one
damn the anode be having full aggro
Just rerecord.
Does this mean that those sacrificial anodes need to be replaced every once in awhile? How would we know when they need to be replaced to keep things functioning well?
Not exclusive to water as well. Any dissimilar metals touching will cause corrosion. Many especially older drinking water systems rely on massive sacrificial anodes buried in a waterproof pods that are wired to the metal pipes.
Wow 👍
Works on boat motors. They call them "zinks" given they are made of zync.
Huh, so sacrifices to the gods do work now? Wait till I get word to the Romans & Aztecs!
You need to use molecular sieves to get to 100% ethanol.
Not many applications use this, and a risk of dissimilar metals just welding to eachother, we just use metal that doesnt corrode easy or zinc plating like a oil bath
Paint thinner in a bottle
1shot everclear to 10oz any flavor tea is a great drink
Fun fact: that is the main reason uss New Jersey is in dry dock. The anodes they put on in the 1990s were for salt water because it was stationed in Washington. But now that it sits in the Delaware River which is brackish water, they need to change the anodes.
Why don’t both rust?
Hail Science!
How often do you gotta change the one in the water heater?
Does the leftover H in the reaction form gaseous H2?
i work at a galvanizing factory in maintenance so this was super cool to see!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m a plumber and we use sacrificial anodes in water heaters!
When you get a water heater, they tell you that the anode will need to be replaced after a year but only the first year. After that the anode will last longer. Why? Does the metal develop some kind of coating from minerals in the water?
Eww ive seen videos of water heaters not being changed in years and its nasty
Redo that test…. And use saltwater.
I am my family’s anode
Kept hearing the entity taking a survivor sound and I couldn’t put my finger on it lmao
Or Korn, which is actually has a purity law instead of Vodka.
Make no sense. You can explain it all you want but my brain can't understand why the water that's in contact with both metals only goes to oxidize one and not both.
I worked in pipelines and you can super charge this with a rectifier. It’s called impressed current Catholic protection.
Does that mean if they do that on oil rigs the “sacrificial” metal has to be replaced every so often?
But...what about when it completely degrades and rusts away-- time to get a new water heater or can that be replaced?
They can be replaced!
Yeah we live in Europe after year 1990 and we don't use metals in our water system that rust. So no need any anodes.
Does anyone else hear the third hook sound in Dead by Daylight?💀
Chemistry really just is magic
This is why metal pencil sharpener are made with magnesium
Dead by Daylight sacrifice sfx is just too good lol
How does the water know?!
Oxidation or oxidization?
Not the dbd sound effect lmao
Sounds more like a timer for when the thing will break
Talking about gods of chemistry is blasphemy. May the father have mercy on your soul.
Human Magic
I saw a video of someone using this idea and putting chunks of a different metal on a rusting car... I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that, but if someone could enlighten me, that would be helpful.
I use zinc plates for the same reasons on my sailboat
to get higher concentration you can use molecular sieves to soak up the water while leaving the ethanol
🟨🟨🟨🟨‼️‼️‼️🟨🟨‼️🟨 there is absolutely NO SUCH THING as "sneaky acetaminophen. every single drug is REQUIRED to have ALL active ingredients listed
I like the dead by daylight sound effect! So cool to see little easter eggs from one of my favorite games.
